I am ecstatic to finally publish my little review of Kim Nash’s latest book. If you’re lucky to know Kim, you already know her novels are just like her, kind, comforting, hilarious, and pure gold!
I received an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank the publisher.
From Lipsyy : I started doing ‘lazy Saturday reviews’ as a way of getting reviews done in just 30 mins, and they proved to be quite popular. They are quick and snappy, and concentrate less on the plot (or content) and writing and more on my overall feelings about said book. They generally end up being a bit of a rant. My fave!
Ps: My lazy reviews are more often good ones than rants, haha!
Title: Escape to Giddywell Grange
Author: Kim Nash
Publisher: Hera Books
Date of hardback publication: 18 September 2019
Format: NetGalley ARC
A dog’s life is just what Maddy needs
Maddy Young thought she had it all.
Swanky city apartment? – yep. Fancy car? sorted. High-flying career? – tick.
Even if she’s lost most of her friends because of spending all her time at work, and can’t remember when she last had fun, it’s worth it.
Until she’s suddenly made redundant. Now she’s 37, jobless, and after the breakup with the former love of her life, unhappily single.
Enter Maddy’s childhood friend, Beth, the owner of Growlers, the doggy daycare centre at Giddywell Grange, on a mission to make Maddy see there’s more to life than work.
Soon, Maddy is swapping spreadsheets for volunteer duty at the library, daily Starbucks for cups of tea with elderly neighbours, and her Prada handbag for doggy poo bags… And with Beth’s gorgeous brother, Alex, back from the States, Maddy starts to think that Giddywell Grange might just be her happy place.
But when her old life – and her old boyfriend – comes calling, will Maddy go back to the job she loved so much? Or will she discover that the key to happiness lies in making others happy?
Escape at Giddywell Grange does exactly what it promises; it gives you the opportunity to leave everything behind and ease your feet into wellies!
Maddy has done well. She has an apartment in the city, she’s been working in the same company for 12 years and is en route to a promotion… Except she ends with a different kind of promotion. The kind that opens your eyes on what you thought you wanted, who you thought you were, and what kind of priorities you want.
I liked the way the author tackled a very scary life moment which can await anyone at the next corner. One day, you think you have everything you need, and the next, your entire world is turned upside-down and you’re left bereft, lost, and overwhelmed. The novel never drowns in despair, though, as Maddy is stronger than she thinks. Escape to Giddywell Grange is a breath of hope and a lesson to look at the future with an open heart.
Giddywell Grange is the perfect location for our main character standing at a turning point in her life. Surrounded by the most amazing best friend, family, and adorable furry beasts, Maddy gets all the room she needs to assess her life.
Hilarious, warm, and emotional, Escape at Giddywell Grange is a the perfect gateway read!
Check out Kim’s debut novel: My review of Amazing Grace
Kim Nash lives in Staffordshire with son Ollie and English Setter Roni, is PR & Social Media Manager for Bookouture and is a book blogger at http://www.kimthebookworm.co.uk.
Kim won the Romantic Novelists Association’s Media Star of the Year in 2016, which she still can’t quite believe. She is now quite delighted to be a member of the RNA.
When she’s not working or writing, Kim can be found walking her dog, reading, standing on the sidelines of a football pitch cheering on Ollie and binge watching box sets on the TV. She’s also quite partial to a spa day and a gin and tonic (not at the same time!) Kim also runs a book club in Cannock, Staffs.
Meggy I loved this book too. It was lovely.

I guess a lot of us daydream about escaping the hectic city life and find peace in the countryside (or in a doggy care centre…). Not sure, it would work in real life, but this book sounds like the perfect read to daydream over. 😴

It definitely is 🙂 I’ve actually considered a daycare in the countryside for me and my dogs (and more dogs!) in the past 🙂

Wonderful review, Meggy💜 I had wrongly assumed from the cover that this would be a light read.

It definitely is on the light side, but it also discusses the issues of making life-changing decisions, or suffering from others deciding for you! xx
