August Wrap-Up: Bye-bye Summer!

August, or the end of the summer. August or the second busiest month of the year for me!! Heat waves, paperwork, naps, and lots of books! Let’s rewind and see what happened!

What’s New?

I am officially on the mend! Of course, I’ll always be prone to anxiety, nothing is gone for good and I have bad days, like everybody else. But sports, work, and the run up to my dream in September has spurred me forward and now I feel better than I have felt in months. In years. I remembered happiness was made of little moments!

A New Car!!

car

The very first car I bought with my own money and had been using for 6 years died in August, out of nowhere! So after saying goodbye properly (finding how to get rid of it xD) I got a new baby! It’s newer, it’s cool, it’s mine! I have hours of driving to get to uni so finding a new car was a priority. Another proof of improvement: I did not panic when we ended up in the middle of the countryside without a car, two weeks before my big university start!
I’m only adding this London key thing with it as a lucky charm to make my next dreams come true…

I totally failed my No Social Media option during the vacation week I took. Totally. I have to face the truth, I can spend a few days without blogging, but I do miss chatting and interacting with people on Twitter and Facebook. I miss my friends! I spend most of my time alone for now (it’s about to change!) and this forced break made me realize I needed this online link to the world and to the people I care about.

11th week without chocolate or tea. That’s called willpower!!! #anxietywarrior

Books I read

BEST READING MONTH EVER!!!!

I finally found a schedule that allows me to get more reading done… When my life is about to change, haha! But at least, I got to enjoy it for a month! 16 books read! I’m adding The Surrogate here because I only had 20% to finish on September 1st. And I love that this book held my hand through August to September.

I’ve discovered 5 new favorite books, how often does it happen in the course of a single month? I feel I won the Book Lottery! Curious about them? Best Intentions, The Haunted Forest Tour, Maria in the Moon, House of Spines, and The Surrogate! So many different stories, so many different characters, but the same amount of love! Some of those books haven’t been reviewed yet as I am part of blog tours, but do not worry, the posts are coming you way and I hope to convince you to give them a try if you haven’t already!

Books I reviewed

Never Forget: Till The Dust Settles by Pat Young @py321_young @Bloodhoundbook #BlogTour

Take a Dive: The Girls in the Water by Victoria Jenkins @bookouture @vicwritescrime #BlogTour

Open your Mind and your Eyes: The Unquiet Dead by @AusmaZehanat @noexitpress #BlogTour

Shine, Darling: If You Could See Me Now by Keris Stainton @bookouture @Keris #BlogTour

Kind, or Too Nice?: Best Intentions by Erika Raskin @StMartinsPress @erikaraskin

Another Door Opens: A Single Step by Georgia Rose @GeorgiaRoseBook

Why Me?: The Other Girl by Erica Spindler @EricaSpindler ‏@StMartinsPress

Lazy Saturday Review: Blackout by Ragnar Jonasson @ragnarjo @OrendaBooks

Seeking Justice: Dead To Me by Stephen Edger @StephenEdger @bookouture #BlogTour

Book Review: The Sister, Louise Jensen : A little reminder of my first ARC review for the publication of Louise Jensen’s books in paperbacks everywhere!!!!

A corpse always leads to another: Watching the Bodies by @GrahamSmith1972 @Bloodhoundbook

Grab the Popcorn: The Haunted Forest Tour by @JeffStrand ‏and @JamesAMoore

Another record was broken! 12 reviews written and published this month! I actually wrote more than 12 reviews but you’ll have to wait for the others! :p #EvilBookBlogger
I finally feel comfortable writing my reviews, the pressure is totally gone. I don’t care about the length, I only want it to reflect exactly what I felt and thought, and I am quite proud of myself. So, winning at blogging! 😀 ( If this sounds like bragging to you, I’ll refer you to my “congratulate yourself post! 🙂 This blog has been a lifebelt all those months and I’m glad that I can find room for it when I am on the beach, safe and sound again. I’m definitely not giving up just because I feel better and don’t NEED the blog like I used to. Now it’s all pure fun, and it’s the best feeling in the world.

New Books (won, purchased, for review, whatever)

I behaved!!! I was lucky to get a book gift (Thank you <3) and lots of amazing book mail!

Going Live!

Time to recap what happened with the video project I wanted to work on during August! I LOVED it! It was very difficult to talk to my Mac and focus on both content and pronunciation but I think I achieved what I wanted: being more relaxed, practice more, and have fun! I’m thinking of talking about my life as a publishing student in new videos this year!

I apologize for that last video, I was so exhausted I sound/look terrible!

Blogging Life

August was bittersweet in terms of blogging. I do feel guilty again for not being able to visit everyone’s blog every day or reply to comments quickly enough, and it’s not gonna get better, so I just have to learn how to live with it and admit I can’t do it all!

I am glad I took a week off blogging, I feel I want to check blogs again, because it had started to feel like a chore as the list became longer and longer and my time shorter with every day! So I’m back, I’ll be reachable on social media at all times because let’s be honest, our phones are glued to our hands! At least that’s the case for me! But it will take more time for me to visit and comment. But do not worry, I’m not giving up, I’m not avoiding anyone, I’m just gonna take longer, but keep posting twice or tree times a week!

  1. Amazing wrap up, and some great books! Congrats on the car and really good idea to take some time out to just read blogs, I feel a bit frazzled sometimes with the quantity of blogs I follow and have to remind myself that if I’m not enjoying all of this there’s no point! Great post and well done again:)

    1. Thank you so much! 🙂 So much is happening, I’m barely keeping up, haha! When you reach a certain point in blogging, you have so many interactions, it’s difficult to share and discuss with everyone, it makes me sad. I’ll do my best to find the right balance. Have a great September! 🙂

  2. A lot of good news!Congratulations on the new car and on the number of reviews. I get what you mean about blogging getting exhausting. I had to cut down my interactions this year because it had become too much at some point. Visiting blogs, keeping up with comments and keeping up with blogging and reading plus life stuff can be too much. Just do what you can and don’t feel bad about not doing more. Glad the break did you good though 🙂

I can’t wait to read The Surrogate. I think I will start around Wednesday. Definitely excited about it especially after reading about your experience with it.

Have a wonderful month Meggy. Take Care and all the best in all you do 🙂

    1. Thanks a lot, Diana! I can’t believe I did so much in August, and I am so excited about September 🙂 But I did need that blogging break and even now, the guilt of not visiting everyone’s or replying on time is around; I’ll have to work on it!
I cannot wait for your thoughts of The Surrogate! I’m keeping my review hidden until the tour but it’s hard not to gush over it!!
Have a fabulous September filled with love and books! Thank you so much for your support xx

  4. Wow August was a super busy blogging reading month for you….and it was only 3 weeks of it if we exclude your week off!
    Great posts, books and vlogs.
I like your new keyring for your car. It would be brilliant if you could visit London one day.
I look forward to your new videos about publishing. When do you start?
Ps. Try hard not to feel stressed about visiting blogs. It’s fun not a chore as you said. You don’t have to share and comment on them all. 💕🖒☺
Lots of love and good wishes for September. I have a feeling it will be amazing for you. Xxx

    1. I know!!! When I wrote this post and counted the books, I couldn’t believe it! It made me very happy to be able to fit so many stories in a single month!
The keyring is a goal, and the car one of the means leading to it… 🙂 That’s why I decided I would only put this one on the key.
I’m starting classes on the 7th! I’m both excited and still a bit nervous as I haven’t found a parking space!
You’re so right about visiting blogs, I need to accept choices need to be made and I won’t be able to so, I’ll enjoy the most of it and let everything else go.
Thank you so much my dear Amanda ❤ Your support gives me more strength to make it happen. I wish you a wonderful September! xxx

  6. Wow it seems like you had an amazing reading month Meggy! I’m officially jealous of the sixteen books you got through, I think the most I’ve managed in a month is 11 or 12 and that was a major achievement for me. 🙂
I hope you have a great September; reading, blogging and life wise. 😀

  7. What a fantastic reading month!! I can’t even imagine reading 10 books a month, let alone 16! I am starting to abhor writing the reviews. I have a couple piled up I have to get off my plate before the week is out. So glad you are doing better! I have started realizing some tendencies from anxiety that have built up over the summer about returning to my old job and doing the two houses/two cities living again. Yay for new car! Your car dying on you is definitely panic-inducing, and I would. I had so many problems with my old car, but I couldn’t fathom the expense of a new car. The one good thing my ex-fiance did was talk me into a new car. I feel much safer driving now without constantly worrying about getting stranded. I like keeping up with people on Facebook and Instagram, too. It’s not a totally bad thing, but it can be addicting.

    1. I have no idea how I reached 16! Apparently, working during the morning and turning off the WiFi in the afternoon to read works wonders, haha! Oh no 😦 Sometimes, what works for this is to read a few books with no intentions of reviewing them, and the urge comes back 🙂
I am doing a lot better, bad days are here but I’m fighting 🙂 I hope your anxiety doesn’t hamper your plans and mess up your life too much, it’s a real pain, but I’m sure you can make it!
I was so panicked when the car died two weeks before the beginning of classes! But now all I need is a parking space, haha!
I wish you a wonderful September!

    1. Aw you are so so so so sweet! I never imagined I’d feel this good again. Of course, there are bad days, bad moments, but I have plenty of things to remind me how lucky I am and how far I’ve gone. Most of all, I have my blogging friends always around ❤ It makes a different when you have lost the others…
Thank you!!! I'm so excited about the car, it's my DonnaMobile! hahaha! I'm so eager to discover the classes, too, although I'd happily pass on the French lit xD
Haha, I know, SO MANY GOOD BOOKS AND THE SURROGATE IS THE BEST!!!!! xxxx

      1. You know we will always be there for you! ❤ And definite YES to that name for your new car, love it haha. I hated Dutch literature as well so I can understand your pain… I'm sure the rest of the classes will make up for it. 😀 And I'm so sad I don't have time to read right now; I really need to know how The Surrogate continues!!!

  10. This is so amazing to hear that you’re on the mend!! And every cloud has a silver lining- that’s so cool you got a new car!! I hope that lucky charm works!!! Ahh wow you’ve ploughed through so many reviews- consider me in awe!!! (and looking forward to your next reviews of course!) I totally totally get what you mean about blogging- it can get overwhelming at times- so please don’t feel too much pressure when it comes to all that stuff. We’re all in the same boat and understand!! Although of course I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK!!!!! 😀 ❤

    1. Thank you so much ❤ I feel better, despite some bumps in the road and an uncertainty around us that's making everything more difficult. I'm touching a dream with the tip of my finger so I'm not giving up 🙂 Haha, I love writing reviews as soon as I've finished a book now, it makes things so much easier!!!
I'm fighting the guilt of blog-hopping!!!
I'M GLAD TO BE AROUND ❤
