Suntag: The Happiness Tag

Let’s be honest, we need all the happiness we can find to face the news. Unless you’ve been hibernating in the middle of the Canadian forest, you know dark times are here and we need covers of little joys to keep warm as well as walls of happiness to keep the hope alive and well. So today, let’s do the Happiness Tag! I was not exactly tagged for this one but I stumbled upon in on lovely Beth’s blog. You should go read hers, as well as her unique and fantastic reviews and posts if you haven’t already. That would make you feel better about the world.

There are actual rules to this tag, all you need to do is come up with a list of things that make you happy.

The Things

  • My morning tea ritual. As soon as I wake up, I take the dogs out for a walk, in my pajamas and only half-awake, but the knowing that a hot cup of tea is awaiting me home when I’m done is so comforting. I get plenty of other cups in the day, but the first is special.
  • The thousands of nicknames my oldest friend and myself invent for each other. It has been going on for almost twelve years and we still haven’t run out of ideas. There’s nothing like a sweet name at the start of a message, email or phone call from a person who knows you so well.
  • The smell of the fire burning in the wood stove. I love sitting next to it and just look at the flames or read or just think about which socks I’m gonna wear the next day.
  • The Skype calls from all over the world. Whenever I hear that ringtone on my phone, I just can’t wait to catch up with friends who live so far away or strangers up for an exchange language time. Skype rhymes with excitement either way.
  • Discovering a new favorite song. I easily get obsessed with a song and I play it over and over until someone begs me for a change of tunes. I love finding lyrics that resonate in me at the right time in my life.
  • Witnessing kindness. In any form.
  • My first dog’s morning cuddle. She knows when I’m awake but will wait until I’m ready for the day to come to me for a few minutes of kisses and cuddles. My second dog’s sighs when she doesn’t want to get up because it’s too early for her.
  • Carambars. The first, real and only one. Not the fruit ones. The one that sticks onto your gums and teeth and make you go see the dentist more often than you’d like.
  • Quiet days when nothing really happens. You just have time to appreciate all the little things, do what makes you happy, and take the time. I wish we had more of those.
  • My mom’s voice. It doesn’t matter what she says, the sound of her just makes me happy. Except when she’s asking for the dishes to be cleaned.
  • Finding the perfect foundation for my skin tone. If you’ve been through this, you know what I mean.
  • A diabolo violette to drink at the terrace of a café.
  • Old friends you don’t need to talk to every day to keep that beautiful connection to.

The Songs
(links included in the title)

This song was with me when I took my driver’s licence exam, when I graduated. Every step of the way, it reminded me to keep going.

Seriously, can you NOT dance or sing to that one?

There had to be one French song! My favorite group doesn’t have many happy songs but this one is brilliant and has me singing at the top of my lungs every time.

Did you think you would get away without some Taylor?

Because David being a kid and this awesome song kicking ass!

That’s the grandma in me!

Here is my list. Many things are missing, maybe we should do this once in a while to remind ourselves to keep happiness on top of it all.

What’s on your list?

  1. KYO, I am SO happy you put that song on your list haha, I love this band so, so much – it makes me nostalgic everytime I hear their names. Dernière danse is my favorite from them though, haha 🙂 I loved reading this tag 🙂

    1. I KNOW!! Kyo is like our generation’s Wham, hahahahaha I saw them in concert twice and it’s still as magic as when I was a teen! Dernière danse is a gem. I was so happy their last album was as good as the old ones in my opinion.

  2. Uptown Funk is the perfect upbeat song to keep you going. And I loved all the little things that made you happy. I sat there with a smile while reading, because I could imagine them all as if they were happening to me.

  3. What a lovely post. This makes me happy! I love everything on your list, except Skype calls. I hate calling.. never call me. I won’t answer anyway probably (and it’s not personal). I love Uptown Funk but I’m currently drawn to Frances with Don’t Worry About Me. It’s more of a pessimist song which reflects my current mood ;-). Maybe I should just put on some Bruno Mars anyway. I’ve never seen a Diabolo Violette before but I googled it and I love that colour ! I so want to taste this!

    1. I’m so glad this post made you happy! I just wanted to share a bit of joy during those crazy days. I feel I might need to do this every first Sunday of the month, as a reminder to myself and my friends that happiness is still around. Haha, okay I won’t call you!! I don’t like phone calls either, except when it’s for English practice or from my closest family and friends.
Diabolo violettes are a must in the north of France, I’ve only had one here in Bordeaux, they usually don’t know what I’m talking about!

  4. Great idea for a tag, and I love all your happy things. That first cup of tea is one of my favourites too, but I imagine for you after being outside with the dogs, it is even better. It is very sweet that you and your friend have nicknames for each other.
I love Uptown Funk too, it was sung by an x factor contestant here last year and was a brilliant version.
Also, David Tennant has been to visit the school I work in, to read to the children, it was very cool!

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I felt a happy post was needed. In winter, that first cup of tea is bliss! 🙂
You have no idea how jealous of you I am right now 🙂 I don’t allow myself a lot of fangirlish things but DT is the exception 🙂 I love that it was a nice experience!

  5. This is a great list Donna. I definitely agree with you on the Bruno Mars song. When I hear that I always want to dance and it reminds me of times on holiday with some of my best friends (for some weird reason). I love Taylor Swift as well! 😀
Also your list of happy things is a great one as well. I love having quiet days, especially when the rest of the days of the week have been really busy and/or hectic. Also my dog never fails to make me happy either! 😀 ❤

    1. Glad the songs make you happy too 🙂 I like having a playlist that brings a smile to my lips when it’s raining or it’s just a bad day.
Exactly, we don’t appreciate quiet days enough. I love having the time to take the time! 🙂 Dogs are the best happiness medicine

  6. Hahahah this is brilliant! 🙂 Quiet days are definitely amazing. Nothing like appreciating the little things with nothing hanging over your head. Old friends and kindness in any form are definitely things to cherish and easily make us warm and fuzzy inside. 100% agree! 😛

  7. Ah what a wonderful, wonderful post!! I loved all your list of things that make you happy!! And the song selection is awesome!! Agree with you about Uptown Funk! And the Proclaimers are one of my fave bands! Of course there had to be a TSwift song! (funnily enough I think I had both a proclaimers song and a TSwift song when I did this) And that MJ song doesn’t make you a grandma (ok, I actually have the taste of a grandma at this stage… so maybe we’re both grandmas here)

    1. Thank you so much, all the bananas to you to keep you happy ❤ I couldn't do a happy playlist without The Proclaimers, they manage to make me sing out loud even during my darkest days 😀 Haha, yay grandmas!
