The Goodreads Book Tag

Hello lovelies. It’s currently 3-ish pm on a Sunday and I am writing my Suntag post. I was sure the tag of the week had been prepared, written, formatted and scheduled. Turns out I only hallucinated or dreamed doing all of this (probably both). I was tagged by the adorable Michelle @ Book Adventures to do the Goodreads Tag, thank you dear πŸ™‚

My love story with Goodreads started slow. No love at first sight. Rather a “what the hell is this and how do I keep it organized” kind of first date. It took us some time but we’re doing good now. My shelves are not perfect and I keep forgetting to add books to read, but my Read shelf is up to date and my reviews feel at home on the website.

What is the last book you marked as read?

lincoln

It’s official, I cannot say I don’t enjoy sci-fi any more. Well, light sci-fi with the right characters. Can I like sci-fi without aliens? The only aliens I tolerate are from Doctor Who.

What are you currently reading?

the cursed child

I’m feeling a little down so I changed my planning reads and will start The Cursed Child as soon as I’m done with this post. I believe returning to the magical world can only make me feel good. Also, that cover looks gorgeous on my shelf and screams “take me with you” every time I walk by.

What was the last book you marked as to read?

a long way down

I noticed this book on a blogger’s post and thought it had to be mine too. Sometimes you have to go with your gut.

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes I do, and it makes me crazy that the site does not allow us to use half stars. A half can mean so much. A half can save your life! Like when you are famished and there’s only half a breadstick on the table, or when you still have two lectures and your battery is half full. We need a petition so that the world can understand how important half are (and if someone could make me half stars to add to my reviews, I’d be eternally grateful.)

What book do you plan on reading next?

my grandfather's eyes

In my eternal struggle to catch up with ARC’s, I will pick My Grandfather’s Eyes. I like the idea of an unlikable main character.

Are you doing the 2016 reading challenge?

Yes, I am, and I’m thrilled to have read 48 books out of the 30 I had promised myself! I aimed low to avoid any disappointment or pressure. I’m still jealous about every blogger who can read the double but I’ll live.

What book do you plan on buying next?

This is a hard one. I am going to slow down on the buying thing, but I’d love to get the rest of The Raven Boys series and Ready Player One.

Do you have a wishlist?

I have too many wish lists! My Amazon is divided into 11 wishlists, from mandatory university reads to my “wanna read”, “really wanna read” and “need now” lists. Currently, they contain a total of 357 books.

What is your favourite quote?

There is a quote stuck in my mind since early July.

“God is suffering’s biggest spectator.”

Who are your favourite authors?

I hate that question. How am I supposed to answer with only a few names? Here are some of the authors I keep on auto-buy. Jenny Lawson (I told you I would not shut up about her book), Maggie Stiefvater, Tiffany McDaniel, Chris Brookmyre, S K. Tremayne.

Tag Time!

  1. Ever since I saw the movie for A Long Way Down with Aaron Paul and Pierce Brosnan I’ve wanted to read this book. I’ve heard there are some slight differences between the movie and book. The movie was really funny. I loved it. I just marked it as to read on Goodreads. I was going to buy it buy damn it’s $12.99 on Kindle. That’s crazy expensive for a Kindle book. I think I’ll wait for a sale of gift card. I’m cheap. πŸ™‚

    1. Wait, there’s a movie?? haha. I never think of checking adaptations. I’ll try and read the book first, and get the movie soon. Definitely too expensive! On Amazon France, the kindle is 5e35 and the paperback is 5e85, which means both are around $6!

        1. Thank God you’re here to let me know about movies πŸ˜€ I’m planning a Breakfast at Tiffany’s viewing next week.
Well, you have more books available, it’s only fair I get at least one advantage from being in France, haha!

          1. I love watching movie adaptations of books. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is amazing! Audrey is amazing! You will love it! Holly Golightly is my spirit animal. πŸ™‚ Yeah, that’s true. We do have more books here than France. Let me know what you think about the book and movie. I loved the movie. πŸ™‚

  2. I agree that the ratings should include half stars! Congrats on having read 48 books already this year! (I reached my Goodreads challenge today (60 books)). Your wishlist division is hilarious and I wonder how you decide really really want read and want to have it now πŸ˜‰

    1. 60? Congrats πŸ˜€ I still have to take lessons on time management to get more reading time.
haha, I try to keep my “need it now” list below 10 books, so if number 11 comes in, it automatically falls into the “really want it”. If there are less than 10 books in the “need it now” it depends on my feelings the moment I opened that Amazon page! If I can wait a little, it does not make it on the highest list πŸ™‚

    1. My wish to stay away until October disappeared, haha, I can’t resist posting my review for the Hype or Like Friday. It’s amazing how HP’s world has a soothing and comforting effect (despite the war and the deads xD)

  3. I really love this tag, and I loved reading your answers as well!
I hope you enjoy Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I haven’t seen a negative review for it yet, and although I haven’t read the book myself I did go and see the play and I really loved it so I think the book will be just as amazing!
Also I definitely agree that we need a half star rating on Goodreads, there are so many books I don’t want to give a four star rating to but they’re not quite three stars either, and that’s great news about completing your reading challenge as well. You must be so thrilled! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you!
You went to see the play? Awesome! It must have been brilliant. I’m a bit worried about the format, but I’m really hoping to get a new slice of magic and travel back to the wizard world.
When I set my reading challenge to 30, I was not sure to reach it because last year I must have read 7 books max, so it feels good to see I’m fully back on the reading love! πŸ™‚

      1. That’s all right! πŸ˜€
It was an amazing experience, and yeah I know what you mean. It can’t all be conveyed through the book but I think the nostalgia of going back to Hogwarts will be worth it!
Definitely a good experience. I feel the same whenever I come back from a reading slump! πŸ˜€

  4. I don’t like space tanks in my sci-fi ^^.

Good to see someone else talking about the life-threatening absence of half star ratings in the GR system! xD It’s driving me nuts sometimes! And that would be pretty bad if I had a peanut allergy. Though peanuts aren’t actually nuts…Well, you get my point obviously!

READY PLAYER ONE!! \Γ΅/ I ordered it together with Furiously happy yesterday. Two more books I can stare at in admiration XD

  6. Great selection of books! I love to see a variety of types/ genres in a post. Also I completely agree about goodreads. I find it useful for reviewing and great for recommendations/lists but I know there is so much functionality I haven’t fully grasped yet.
