This Week In Books (June 29th 2016)

thisweekinbooks

This Week In Books is a weekly update on what you’ve been reading hosted by Lipsyy Lost & Found . A similar meme is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

∧ Then ∧ The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater / Crown of Midnight, Sarah J. Maas

For once, the review was posted before the next Wednesday post! Therefore, you already know I adored The Raven Boys. You can read my rambles here if you haven’t already 🙂

My buddy reading with Flo @ flowlessbooks is over. I really had fun criticizing Crown of Midnight. It was as entertaining as the first book, and like Throne of Glass, the second half managed to intrigue me enough to make me want to read more.

≈ Now ≈ The Stepmother, Claire Seeber

the stepmother

The perfect wife. A fairytale family. Don’t believe your eyes…

Jeanie and Matthew are a happily married couple who both have teenage children from previous relationships.
No one said it would be easy to raise a blended family under one roof but Jeanie and Matthew are strong. They will make it work.

And whilst Jeanie’s step-daughter Scarlett rejects her, Jeanie will just have to try harder to win her over.
But Jeanie has a past. A terrible secret she thought she’d buried a long time ago. And now, it’s coming to the surface, threatening to destroy her new marriage.
Someone is playing a terrifying game on Jeanie and she must put a stop to it once and for all.
After all, a fairytale needs a happy ending … doesn’t it?

I should know better by now than to pick up my thriller in the morning. Every time I do, I end up forgetting all the engagements and plans I’ve made for the day. I am almost done with this story, which means two things: it is gripping enough for me to cancel my day and stay on the couch, and I am late on posts and reviews again because I could not put it down when I had to.

∨ Next ∨ The Summer That Melted Everything, Tiffany McDaniel

the summer that melted everything

This is a hell of a synopsis. My ratio being what it is, I hadn’t dared requesting this on NetGalley, so I was delighted when Tiffany McDaniel offered me to review her debut novel. I am really enthusiastic about this book.

Have you read any of these books? What are you reading this week?:)
Do share in the comments!
Happy reading!

  1. I’m really glad you enjoyed both The Raven Boys and Crown of Midnight. For me, the next book in the Throne of Glass series is possibly the weakest. Although it does introduce a whole new group of rather tremendous female characters… so that’s great 🙂

I usually make the mistake of picking up a thriller at 10pm… and then don’t get to sleep until the early hours of the morning when I’ve finished it!

    1. I might have issues with the next book then, because I already spent quite some time complaining about Crown of Midnight! But I’m all for new characters (with hope of more badass moments)
I find that thrillers have a way to envelope me and shut me off from the outside world, a weird power I don’t get with any other genre, no matter how great the story.

    1. The Stepmother grabbed me and would not let go! I finished it a few minutes ago. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it! The writing is excellent! I love the contrast between the season and the darkness of the events in The Summer That Melted Everything. I am sure it will be a very interesting read 🙂
Thank you! 🙂 I’ll check your post now, thanks for the link.
